Mind Food | Failure

I have had some epic failures and major burn-outs during my career. I was either under-prepared, too naive, out of my depth or under skilled for the situation. There have been many moments that I have not been proud of and wish that I could replay for a better result. But life is not like that. Each moment is a one shot deal. And just like losing is akin to winning, failure is akin to learning.

There is no success without failure.

Failure is the best teacher. It’s through trial and error that we learn the most and can grow the most. Like a child learning to walk, effort and persistence are required then ultimately rewarded.

Fortunately, there have been a number of people around me that have helped me understand the lesson so I could learn and develop personally. Having someone ‘at your back’ to offer a clear perspective, someone who is invested in your journey and can guide your development is what coaching is all about.

Trying to develop yourself without a coach is like trying to bake a cake for the first time without a recipe. You don’t know what you don’t know.

Michael Jordan, a childhood hero of mine has an excellent viewpoint on failure:

What time have you set aside for personal development? Are you content with the level you are playing at? If you are looking for the next step in your career consider joining my developmental coaching program – learn from my failure to fast track your success.

(BTW – how good was ‘The Last Dance’ on Netflix?!)
