Last month I wrote a blog about the key to staff retention. It must have hit a sweet spot because the response was overwhelming. (If you missed it here is the link)

In my experience the key to staff retention is to have a clear strategy that addresses 3 areas:

 Connection, Contribution and Progression.

Let’s go a little deeper on Connection.....

As human beings we are a social species who thrive on collaboration. We love to be involved, we love feedback, progression and growth.

A recent study by the global management powerhouse McKinsey & Company on the future of the workplace states that organisations need to 'invest seriously' in employee connection to maintain productivity in the evolving future of work.

So what does this look like in the workplace?

1. Clarity - where is the company headed and how does this direction guide the leadership team?
2. Communication - How is the vision shared throughout all parts of the business, and why should staff care?
3. Culture – What are the underpinning values that are acted upon daily?

It could be as simple as a daily briefing, a coffee with the team or a summary email at the end of a busy week - employees love to know what is happening around them.

Not having a connected team is like having a brand new iPhone with a flat battery. Impressive cred. Zero output.

Employee connection is paramount to retention, consistency and building loyal staff, which in turn creates loyal customers.

How are you connecting with your team?
